  1. Brooke:
Again, I am amazed how God’s work will get done, no matter if we decide to be a part of His plan or not; no matter “who,” He will find someone and some way to get it done. I am currently doing the Beth Moore Bible Study of the Book of Esther, “It’s Tough To Be A Woman.” Two things jumped out at me while reading your Oct. 5 post: (1) Who knows? and (2) You may be right where you are “for such a time as this.”

In the Bible study, she refers to “Who knows?” Repeating, who knew? who knew? who knew? Who does know?

Also, to realize that you may be right where God wants you to be, “for such a time as this.” We are only asked to plant a seed. We may never see the plant bloom. Be assured that none of your labor in Belize will be in vain. You are precious, and your life shines His light through your work. Keep your eyes open to the marvelous glories the SON will lead you to find on this journey.

    In His Love,
    Pam

  2. Yes, Brooke !…if just one kid’s life is changed because of your being there, [ or adult, ] it is so worth it !!! Every time we go to Nicaragua, Chuck says that. ] Just think; who knows how many lives that one could effect ! God bless you, honey, in what you are doing ! :)

  3. Yes, you could have gone to India and you could have been a traveler, but right now, Belize is truly becoming a second HOME to you. And HOMES lose their excitement and thrills and you actually start to see the REALITY. When we were in Peace Corps, we were told the first 3-6 months was the HONEYMOON phase, and then you drop off and hit a real low after that, and then slowly ,slowly start to build up to a more realistic feelign of living there-then is when you really become a PART of a place and truly truly understand it. The work you are doing is incredible. I’m very proud of you Brooke and you aren’t missing anything here! truly! you are building ties and relationships there that are probably stretching all those belizians minds to think about entirely different possibilities and perceptions. You are missed!

  4. brooke-i love you! i am proud of you! i am inspired by you! We don’t become social workers to change the world although our hearts and commitment to helping feels big enough to do so. We become social workers to promote any positive change and help. If we think in the big pictures terms, it can get disheartening. We do it for just that one….or few. Even just a small change like that-can impact more than we will ever fully know. facing the battles inside of us with honesty and with real self disclosure- helps us to grow. and you can’t use those coping skills unless you recognize whats going on inside. brooke-you do so with such grace and elegance. keep your head up!

  6. best line of the whole story: I’ll gladly pour as many drops as I can into this bucket in the tiny amount of time I have here

i love your openness, God is working in you and through you and i can see it all through this post. praise Him for never letting go, for continuing to make you more like Him each and every day. make sure that as you pour into the kids and the community, you don’t let your soul run dry. let Him be your true living water and let Him quench your thirst, for it is out of that supply that you have anything to pour out.

praying for you & miss you!

  7. yeah, sprinky. i hate that lady, too. in fact, i just saw a writing contest in a magazine that would win you a lot of cash, and i though, “brooke NEEDS to enter this”.

i hate those “what am i doing here” and “what the heck was i thinking” feelings. oh, yeah….and the “i’m freaking stuck here” feeling. i know that one, too. and how ’bout “can someone just hook me up to a margarita drip IV NOW?”

but i think those are the times that we would never choose for ourselves that keep us humble…looking to god and not our own intelligence. that looking to god shows him that we trust him.

and i needed to write that and think about that just as much as you. (my life is too nomadic.)
